Out of bed
Into the fast car
To the far airport
Off to cultural Thailand
Beside the wonderful sea and beautiful skies
Past the wonderful days
For all the fun
Time to Leave!

Into the magical world
Past the two mountains
Seeing the glowing tower

Beside me
On the wooden table
Near the colorful screen
Into the black wires and cables
Until time
I sit watching my favorite channel.

The Lovely Babies

In the king crib
On my warm lap

In the glistening water
On the huge tube
Down the slippery slide

Poetry Brackets

Students this week perused Each one found a great poem. We then randomly chose brackets and pitted the poems against each other. The only criteria was that the person liked it and it is a GREAT poem.

Now we want to see what you think!

The Raven

Seventh graders have been reading and studying ballads. We are now reading “The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe. This post is a homework assignment for them. Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

Here is a new video to follow along with as you read “The Raven” for homework this weekend. (Sorry, I couldn’t find a good copy of The Simpson’s version, but I’ll bring it and we’ll watch it on Monday.)

In case you forgot your book, here is the text of “The Raven” poem, so you can follow along as you watch the video.

Shape Poems

Students created some wonderful shape poems. The assignment was to use words to create a picture of something they were passionate about. I think their work shows both passion and genius.

Shape Poem – What do you envision?

Our next poetry assignment is to create a shape or picture poem. You can use paper, magazines, construction paper or any materials really. It can be any size. Please be creative and inspired!

You can also create it digitally. Here are two digital examples. For a digital version, you can use Glogster, Word, Draw, or whatever program fits your idea. We will need to get a screen shot of it for publication.

I wrote one as I was dreaming about spring last evening…
