We were looking for words that start with U, and we found the umbrella bird. Look! It has a little umbrella built in on its head.
Other words we thought of are: up, under, umbrella, umbrella hat, and that’s all. Can you think of other U words?

Using images by Hada Litim at #eltpics, I made this sight word book for our new words: one and two.
It’s always best to practice sight words in a meaningful reading experience. Hopefully, this will be a fun way to practice reading one and two. It will also give practice with English names for some fruits and vegetables. Watch the slide show here or read it below.

We saw this recycled bottle love seat made by Unbound scholars in Guatemala. We liked it, and we wanted to make our own, so kindergarteners began saving juice bottles from home.
After we saved about 40 bottles, we were ready to build a kindergarten-sized love seat.
We taped 20 bottles together for the seat.
We rigged up armrests with more juice bottles.
There was some wild and crazy creating going on. It wasn’t easy helping 52 kindergarteners feel ownership in making our new furniture, but we did it. They are very proud of their work and look forward to getting a turn to sit on it.
First, we just had a white sheet for a cover.

We only had the white sheet for one day. Then someone brought this colorful cover.

Look what the precious KG2 students have drawn and written! Last week they took a trip to the wildlife park.
I love their artwork. They really made some lovely animals.
They all wrote words too. Some wrote words they copied from the board. Some had the teacher write the words they chose. Some used inventive spelling to write their own sentences. Great work!
