The Bilbies Go Home with the Star of the Week

We are enjoying having Bilbies in our classroom. They came all the way from Australia. They are now part of the Star of the Week activities. Our weekly star student can choose to take our Bilbies pack or our Blue rhinoceros pack home for the week.

This week’s star student took the Bilbies home for the week, and then she took them on a trip to Doha in Qatar.

It was the first time since they left Australia that they went on a plane! I’m sure they liked it better sitting in the passenger section than they did when they flew in the cargo area.

Anyway, here is an essay she wrote and some pictures of their amazing week! I know they will come back to school all worn out and with lots of good stories to tell.

The bilbies and I went to Doha and we had a wonderful time together. First we went to the Bahrain Airport; next we got on the plane and flew to Doha. It took 30 minutes. After that we arrived at the airport in Doha. Then our taxi came and took us to our hotel and we had Asian for dinner. The next morning we went back to the pool and then we had lunch. After lunch we went back to the airport in Doha, and finally we boarded the plane and returned to Bahrain.

Facts about real bilbies
The bilby is a nocturnal omnivore that doesn’t need to drink water. Bilbies are from the deserts of Australia, and have long muzzles and very big ears that let out heat. They are becoming endangered because of habitat loss and change, and problems with other animals. The bilby is also the Easter icon in Australia.
